Organised by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the esteemed International Buddhist Confederation , this momentous summit aims to explore Buddhist teachings and practices to unlock innovative solutions for issues like climate change, poverty, and conflict.

By bringing together distinguished lay Buddhist scholars and revered Dharma Masters, the summit aims to uncover the message of peace, compassion, and harmony espoused by the Buddha.

Under the theme of “Responses to Contemporary Challenges: Philosophy to Praxis,” the Global Buddhist Summit witnesses the participation of renowned scholars, esteemed Sangha leaders, and dedicated Dharma practitioners from various corners of the world.

This convergence of minds and hearts fosters insightful discussions and collaborations to address the multifaceted challenges prevalent in our global society.

During the summit, the Prime Minister had the honour of presenting monk robes (Chivar Dana) to nineteen esteemed monks, symbolising the deep respect for the monastic tradition and their invaluable contributions to society.

The International Buddhist Confederation  plays a pivotal role in establishing Buddhism’s presence on the global platform. As the largest religious Buddhist confederation, the IBC strives to preserve the rich heritage of Buddhism, facilitate knowledge sharing, and promote its inherent values.

The Formation and Purpose of the IBC

The IBC originated from the Global Buddhist Congregation  held in New Delhi in November 2011. 

During this historic event, a resolution was adopted, paving the way for the formation of an international umbrella body, which later emerged as the International Buddhist Confederation.

Buddhism in India: A Journey of Enlightenment and Diverse Schools of Thought

Buddhism traces its origins back to Siddhartha Gautam, who renounced his privileged life and embarked on a path of asceticism. Attaining enlightenment under a pipal tree in Bodhgaya, Bihar, he became the Buddha, and his teachings formed the foundation of Buddhism.

Throughout history, significant Buddhist Councils were held to preserve and disseminate Buddhist teachings.Mahayana, Hinayana, Theravada, and Vajrayana are some of the major schools, each with its distinctive beliefs and practices.
