Educational Qualifications and Eligibility for CLAT 2024

Educational qualifications play a pivotal role in determining eligibility for the CLAT entrance exam. Delving into the specifics is essential to understand the Consortium’s established criteria and identify who meets the CLAT exam eligibility based on their educational qualifications.

To meet the eligibility criteria for CLAT 2024, candidates must have successfully completed their 12th grade education from a recognised institution. Additionally, candidates currently appearing for their class 12 exams are also eligible to apply for CLAT 2024.

Minimum Marks in the Qualifying Exam

Eligibility for CLAT 2024 includes a minimum aggregate mark requirement. Candidates are expected to obtain at least 45% marks in their qualifying examination (Class 12). However, for candidates belonging to the SC and ST categories, a minimum of 40% marks or an equivalent grade is sufficient to meet the eligibility criteria.

General / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI45%
SC / ST40%

Age Limit for CLAT Exam

In India, many admission authorities and universities set age limits, either upper or lower, for course admissions. However, to accommodate a broader range of aspiring law students, the Bar Council of India (BCI) has introduced a maximum age restriction for admissions to five-year LLB courses. Consequently, the CLAT consortium aligns with this age criteria for determining CLAT eligibility.

Importantly, there is no maximum age limit for candidates appearing in the CLAT 2024 exam. This means that individuals of any age group are welcome to apply for this law entrance examination, making it inclusive and accessible to all.

Eligibility for International Students in CLAT 2024

For candidates falling into the NRI, NRI-sponsored, or Foreign National categories wishing to apply for CLAT 2024, the process involves reaching out to their respective university authorities. It’s essential to contact the university to inquire about the specific documentation requirements and obtain clarification on any queries related to the NRI Quota and eligibility for the exam.

Candidates applying under the NRI category must participate in CLAT 2024 if the National Law Universities (NLUs) they are interested in require the CLAT exam as an admission prerequisite for the NRI category. The responsibility of shortlisting candidates based on CLAT eligibility updates rests with the CLAT authority.

Tie-Breaking Procedure for CLAT Eligibility 2024

In cases where candidates achieve equal marks, the exam conducting body follows a tie-breaking procedure:

  • An applicant with higher marks in the Legal Aptitude section will be given preference.
  • If the tie persists, applicants of higher age will be given preference.
  • If the tie still continues, the CLAT rank will be determined through a computerised drawing of lots.

This procedure ensures fairness and transparency when resolving tied scores among CLAT 2024 applicants.
