Launched in April 2019, the IJR serves as a collaborative effort involving esteemed civil society organisations such as the Centre for Social Justice, DAKSH, Common Cause, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, TISS-Prayas, and Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy. 

Rankings and Findings

With an impressive overall score of 6.38, Karnataka showcases its commitment to a robust judicial system. Tamil Nadu and Telangana closely follow, securing scores of 6.11, highlighting their commendable performance in the formal justice system. 

On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh finds itself at the bottom of the rankings for the third consecutive time, with a score of 3.78.

The India Justice Report 2022 reveals the deteriorating state of the justice delivery system in the country. Years of neglect and disrepair have resulted in severe shortcomings, leading to an incapability of the system to provide timely justice. 

This report, a collaborative effort with esteemed organisations like DAKSH, Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative, Common Cause, Centre for Social Justice, Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy, and TISS-Prayas, aims to track the progress made by each state in terms of structural and financial capacity to deliver justice.

The India Justice Report 2022 brings attention to the issue of pending cases in different states. Uttar Pradesh, in particular, records the highest average pendency of cases, with an average duration of 11.34 years.
