The development came during the visit of European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to India.
The European Commission described the proposed deal as the largest trade agreement ever concluded by either side.
A Free Trade Agreement or FTA generally seeks to reduce or eliminate trade barriers between participating economies. These barriers may include tariffs, quotas and restrictions affecting trade in goods and services.
An important distinction must be remembered for CLAT preparation: conclusion of negotiations does not mean that the FTA immediately came into force.
Following the conclusion of negotiations, the text must go through legal revision, signing and the respective internal approval procedures before becoming legally binding.
The development is particularly significant because the European Union is one of India’s largest trading partners.

The report was based partly on the Global Risks Perception Survey, which included responses from more than 1,300 experts from business, government, academia, civil society and international organisations.

According to the IMF, investment in technology, relatively supportive financial conditions and adaptability among businesses were helping sustain economic activity.
However, geopolitical tensions and uncertainty surrounding technology-sector expectations remained potential risks.
The IMF also expected global inflation to continue declining.
The IMF is one of the most important international financial institutions and originated from the Bretton Woods system.

11. 2025 Was the Third-Warmest Year on Record: Copernicus
The Copernicus Climate Change Service reported in January 2026 that 2025 was the third-warmest year on record.
It was only slightly cooler than 2023.
The year 2024 remained the warmest year on record in the Copernicus dataset.
The report also found that the previous 11 years were the 11 warmest years on record.
Another important finding concerned the global temperature average for the three-year period between 2023 and 2025.
According to Copernicus, the global average temperature during this three-year period was more than 1.5°C above the estimated pre-industrial average of 1850-1900.
It was the first three-year period in the dataset to record an average exceeding this threshold.
The 1.5°C threshold is particularly important because the Paris Agreement aims to pursue efforts to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
However, an individual year or short multi-year period exceeding 1.5°C does not automatically mean that the Paris Agreement’s long-term temperature target has formally been breached.

However, the mission encountered an anomaly near the end of the third stage or PS3.
ISRO later classified the EOS-N1 spacecraft launch as unsuccessful.
The mission represented the 64th flight of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle.
It was also the ninth dedicated commercial mission undertaken by NewSpace India Limited or NSIL.
The mission was intended to carry the EOS-N1 Earth-observation satellite together with 15 co-passenger satellites belonging to domestic and international customers.

How to Prepare January 2026 Current Affairs for CLAT
CLAT Current Affairs questions are generally not limited to asking what happened on a particular date. A passage based on a major development may be followed by questions testing related organisations, institutions, geography, personalities and static general knowledge.
Therefore, January 2026 current affairs should be studied through connections.
For example, the India-EU FTA can lead to questions about the institutions of the European Union. The IMF growth forecast can be connected with Bretton Woods institutions. Venezuela can lead to questions on OPEC and South American geography. Climate reports may be linked with the Paris Agreement. Similarly, the ISRO mission can lead to questions about India’s launch vehicles and space organisations.
