Logical Reasoning Questions for CLAT | QB Set 93 [Rank from Top and Bottom Questions]

Rank questions generally involve the position of a person from the top or bottom of a list. The key relationship used in such questions is:

Total number of persons = Rank from Top + Rank from Bottom − 1

This formula works because the person being counted is included in both rankings. When the total number of persons and rank from one side are given, the rank from the other side can be found by rearranging the same idea. If two ranks of the same person are given, the total number of people in the list can be calculated directly using the formula above.

In some questions, ranks may change after people move positions. In such cases, the change in rank helps determine how many people were ahead or behind earlier. The main strategy is to carefully identify what is given (rank from top, rank from bottom, or total number of persons) and apply the relationship between them step by step.
