Following in the footsteps of Nagaland—the first state to implement the digital legislative platform—Puducherry’s adoption of NeVA marks a significant step towards a unified, paperless, and tech-driven legislature.
What is NeVA?
NeVA, or the National e-Vidhan Application, is an initiative by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs (MoPA) aimed at transforming the legislative processes of India’s states and union territories. The core objective is to digitise and streamline legislative operations across all 37 State/UT legislatures under the unified vision:
“One Nation – One Application”
Key Features of NeVA
- Paperless Proceedings: Enables real-time digital documentation and instant updates on legislative business, eliminating the need for physical papers.
- NIC Cloud – MeghRaj Integration: Ensures secure and centralised cloud deployment of legislative data through the National Informatics Centre’s MeghRaj platform.
- Comprehensive Digital Support: Offers features for member attendance, questions, bills, debates, documents, and reports—all in a seamless digital interface.
Funding Model
NeVA operates under a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS). The Union Government provides the major share of funding, while states contribute a portion, ensuring financial equity and broad accessibility across the nation.
