The National Law University Meghalaya has officially become a member of the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLUs) with effect from January 2026. The development follows approval by the Governing Body of the Consortium and a formal communication received from the CLAT Office.
As per the admission notification issued by the University, CLAT 2026 has been declared the mandatory and valid qualifying examination for admission to all academic programmes offered by NLU Meghalaya for the Academic Year 2026–27.
While NLU Meghalaya has joined the CLAT Consortium, the University has clarified that admissions for the Academic Year 2026–27 will not be conducted through the Consortium’s centralised CLAT counselling and seat allotment portal. Instead, admissions for this academic year will be carried out through a University-managed admission and counselling process, strictly on the basis of CLAT 2026 ranks.
The University stated that the centralised CLAT counselling mechanism of the Consortium shall apply to NLU Meghalaya from the Academic Year 2027–28 onwards. The arrangement for 2026–27 has been described as transitional and procedural in nature and does not affect the mandatory requirement of appearing for CLAT 2026.
Due to this transitional process, NLU Meghalaya may not appear in the list of “Participating Universities 2026” on the official Consortium website, the notification clarified.
The University has informed applicants that detailed information regarding application timelines, eligibility criteria, counselling schedules, and other instructions will be notified separately on the official website of National Law University Meghalaya. Candidates have been advised to regularly check the University website for official updates and announcements.
The notification has been issued under the signature of the Registrar, National Law University of Meghalaya.
