Delhi High Court Reserves Verdict on CLAT 2025 UG Petitions

The Delhi High Court has reserved its verdict on the batch of petitions challenging the CLAT 2025 UG exam results. A Division Bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela heard arguments over multiple days, addressing candidates’ objections regarding errors in the CLAT UG answer key and procedural lapses.

During the hearing, around 12 petitions related to the CLAT 2025 undergraduate exam were considered. Key grievances included:

  • Errors in Answer Key: Petitioners argued that several questions in the exam had mistakes, especially in legal reasoning and logical reasoning sections. Candidates claimed that some questions tested knowledge beyond the level expected from a Class 12 student.
  • Syllabus Violation: The Court discussed whether questions related to Contract Law (concepts like void and voidable agreements) were outside the prescribed CLAT UG syllabus.
  • Grievance Redressal Mechanism: The Court questioned the effectiveness of the Consortium of NLUs’ grievance redressal system. It suggested improvements and asked the Consortium to file an affidavit addressing procedural lapses, including issues like underlining passages during the exam.
  • Objections Timeline: The Court emphasised that only those candidates who had first raised their objections with the Consortium within the stipulated 24-hour timeline would have their petitions entertained.
  • Effect on Results: The judges remarked that at least one question in the CLAT UG 2025 exam would likely need to be scrapped, hinting that revised results could be issued.

Throughout the hearings, the Court stressed the urgency of the matter, recognising the anxiety among candidates and the upcoming academic session schedules.

The Court has reserved its judgement on the CLAT UG petitions. The CLAT UG 2025 counselling process will remain on hold until the verdict is delivered.
