Will CLAT 2025 Results Be Revised? SC to Hear Plea on January 15

The Supreme Court will hear the plea regarding the revision of CLAT 2025 results on January 15, 2025. The dispute arose over alleged errors in the final answer key, released on December 7, 2024, prompting calls for re-evaluation.

Aditya Singh, a CLAT aspirant, petitioned the Delhi High Court, claiming the discrepancies impacted his scores and admissions to top NLUs. The High Court ruled in his favor, directing the Consortium of National Law Universities to revise the results. However, the Consortium challenged the directive in the Supreme Court, arguing it could disrupt admissions for over 70,000 candidates.

The CLAT 2025 counselling process is on hold pending the Supreme Court’s decision, which could lead to a revision of results or maintain the current scores.

About the Issue

The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2025 has encountered significant legal challenges due to alleged errors in its answer key, leading to multiple court cases and delays in the admission process. The controversy began when Aditya Singh, a 17-year-old aspirant, filed a petition in the Delhi High Court challenging the final answer key released by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs). Singh contended that inaccuracies in the answer key adversely affected his scores and, consequently, his chances of securing admission to a top National Law University.

On December 20, 2024, the Delhi High Court acknowledged the errors in questions 14 and 100 of Set A, deeming them “demonstrably clear” mistakes. The court ordered the Consortium to revise the results, awarding marks to candidates who selected the correct option for question 14 and excluding question 100 from evaluation. The Consortium was directed to publish the revised merit list accordingly.

In response, the Consortium challenged the High Court’s decision, expressing concerns that revising the results could disrupt the admission process for thousands of candidates. The matter escalated to the Supreme Court, which is scheduled to hear the plea on January 15, 2025. Meanwhile, the CLAT 2025 counselling process has been put on hold, causing uncertainty among over 70,000 candidates awaiting admission.

The Supreme Court’s forthcoming decision is anticipated to have a significant impact on the future of CLAT 2025 admissions. If the court upholds the High Court’s directive, the Consortium will need to revise and republish the results, potentially altering merit ranks and affecting admissions. Conversely, if the court sides with the Consortium, the current results may stand, allowing the counselling process to proceed based on the initial scores.
